| The Gujarat Law Herald was started
in the year 1981 under the joint auspices of the Bar Council of Gujarat
and Ahmedabad Lawyers' Benevolent Fund and its first issue was published
in June, 1981. The Bar Council of Gujarat Initially contributed Rs.
1,00,000 and Bar Council of India Trust also contributed Rs. 25,000
for Publication of GLH. The Very intention of publishing the GLH was
to provide latest and important judgements of the High Court of Gujarat
as well as Apex Court with Gujarati Section at cheaper rate on one
hand and to bring the publishers of local law journals under control
as regards the exorbitant increase in the rate of subscription of
their publication every year on another hand. It is felt by one and
all concerned that we have been successful in our mission.
It is a matter of great pleasure for
GLH to state that the Gujarat Law Herald a journal “of the
Lawyers, by the lawyers and for the lawyers” is being regularly
published on “No profit No loss Basis” and the same
is the only law journal of its kind, published by the State Bar
Council of Gujarat in the Country. The advocates are rendering honorary
services in this laudable project by sparing time from their busy
schedule and the sincere and who hearted efforts of one and all
concerned have earned credit for our journal and has build up its
goodwill in as much as the same has been appreciated by the Humble
judges of the High Court of Gujarat as well as Supreme Court, Senior
Lawyers, Bar, Bench and litigating public and the reporting of GLH
is now considered reliable.
The Bar Council of Gujarat is now publishing
GLH independently since 1994 and has made several changes as regards
its layout as well as quality of paper and printings and has also
increased the number of pages for reported judgements without increasing
the rate of subscription for a long time amidst various constraints,
and has put all its efforts for making GLH more useful and impressive
which is also an experienced fact.
One of the important problems of GLH
was regarding the office premises, as GLH was not having its own
and independent office to carry out its activities. Since the Bar
Council of Gujarat has decided to have own office premises for itself
as well as for GLH, a feather is added to the credit of GLH as Late
Shri Shashikant A. Lakhani Charitable Trust has donated office premises
of about 883 sq.ft. Area especially for the activities of GLH. This
is the kind gesture on the part of Shri Yogesh S. Lakhani, Member,
BCG and Hon. Editor, GLH and his family members. Bar Council of
Gujarat and GLH, sincerely thank Mr. Y. S. Lakhani and all his family
members for the same. GLH also put on record on its sincere thanks
to Shri Bahadursinh S. Jadeja, Chairman, BCG and all the members
of the Bar Council for furnishing the said office premises of Gujarat
Law Herald.
GLH is hopeful that the new and pleasant
environment will provide encouragement to the young team of the
editors of GLH in further taking GLH to its highest position of
repute and render better services to its subscribers, Bar, Bench,
Litigating public and all concerned and thereby help the cause of
the Bar Council of Gujarat which will go a long way in the matter
of publication of the Bar Council of Gujarat which will go a long
way in the matter of publication of GLH and will leave behind them
a glorious path of success for their successors to follow in future.
At this golden era in the history
of GLH. GLH Could not control its excitement to make a strong appeal
to all the member of the legal fraternity in the State of Gujarat
to appreciate the gesture of the Bar Council of Gujarat and subscribe
for their own GLH. GLH is confident that in near future it will
Adorn the library of every lawyer of Gujarat.
